This ongoing portrait series began in 2016 as an exploration of digital painting. Curious about working digitally, I began creating portraits on a smartphone using a stylus and a simple painting app. Despite the limitations of the small screen, this early experimentation opened a path that led to the development of the series.

From the outset, the work centered on creating portraits of women painters from history. Research became an integral part of the process, introducing me to artists whose accomplishments had often been overlooked or marginalized within traditional art histories. Learning about their lives, practices, and contributions deepened the purpose of the series. Some of the early digital studies later informed paintings on canvas, but as the project evolved and I transitioned to an iPad, I chose to continue the series exclusively in digital form.

The series is both an act of homage and an effort to bring greater visibility to women painters whose contributions have too often been overlooked. By celebrating their achievements, these portraits acknowledge their important place within the broader history of art.
