Paula McCarty began her painting studies at Parkland College. In 1999, she received her BFA from the University of Illinois in Painting & Drawing. She eventually relocated to California to pursue a graduate degree at California State University, Long Beach, where she received her MFA. She currently teaches in the Art Department at Parkland College.  In addition, she has been teaching painting through the Parkland Community Education Program since 2012 and has been the exhibition designer at Springer Cultural Center in Champaign since 2017. Her work has been exhibited locally and nationally and she maintains a painting practice out of her home studio.
